Your career
First you’ll become a Signalling Technician, helping your team
leader with maintenance and fault-finding of signalling
equipment.
The next step could be to take charge of a fault team, where
you’ll use all your knowledge to fix systems that fail. We'll help
you expand your knowledge as well and keep you up-to-date with new
technology and new thinking – and there will be plenty of
opportunities to learn from colleagues and go on courses. Because
of the unexpected nature of faults, you'll need to work shifts to
make sure the network is covered at all times.
Longer term, you could move into technical support, new works
testing, design, supervision or management as a signal engineer. A
balanced career is likely to involve a combination of several of
these options.
