We’re merging 19th century infrastucture with 21st century technology

Telecoms

It's your telecoms system. You'll help get information from here to there and trains from here to everywhere. And you'll do it every day.

Behind the scenes, we use a vast analogue and digital telecoms network to control the safe and effective passage of trains. Currently, we’re pushing towards a complete digital railway communications system. It will essentially be based on the type of wireless networks that mobile phones use, as well as fixed networks that use fibre and copper cabling to transmit communications fast and effectively.

This is a new area of recruitment for our apprentices. But with all the changes in technology and the expanding rollout of the railway communication system, it’s a growing one. Here you’ll be working with a team of people across a wide range of systems. Once you've completed your apprenticeship, you’ll specialise in a particular area - such as Cab Secure Radio. You can find out more about these areas, by clicking below.
