It's your telecoms system. You'll help get information from here
to there and trains from here to everywhere. And you'll do it every
day.
Behind the scenes, we use a vast analogue and digital telecoms
network to control the safe and effective passage of trains.
Currently, we’re pushing towards a complete digital railway
communications system. It will essentially be based on the type of
wireless networks that mobile phones use, as well as fixed networks
that use fibre and copper cabling to transmit communications fast
and effectively.
This is a new area of recruitment for our apprentices. But with
all the changes in technology and the expanding rollout of the
railway communication system, it’s a growing one. Here you’ll be
working with a team of people across a wide range of systems. Once
you've completed your apprenticeship, you’ll specialise in a
particular area - such as Cab Secure Radio. You can find out more
