About Shared Services
Our Shared Services team deliver specialist processes that have a direct impact on the performance of Network Rail, our customers and suppliers. These services include payroll, accounts, finance, controls and compliance, reporting, recruitment and helpdesk support.
What will you be doing?
The Accounting team within Shared Services prepare VAT returns during each period. They also prepare monthly CIS returns (construction industry scheme) balance sheets, account reconciliations and process write offs. The team also prepare period end JOURNALs and postings. Other activities the team get involved in include, advising on VAT queries, supporting the senior accounting office review and supporting year-end audits.
Main Responsibility
- Responsible for providing financial accounting support in the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and reallocation of costs.
- Support in the delivery of the monthly Vat submission certifying errors are minimised and service level agreements are met.
- Track performance metrics to identify performance issues and drive out process defects.
- Support the Senior Accounting Office process consider historical feedback, embed lessons learnt.
- Responsible for the submission of taxation returns and related information to Network Rail Group taxation department or external agencies.
- Establish and maintain control procedures in relation to Corporation Tax, VAT and construction industry scheme (CIS) and other direct and indirect taxes within Oracle Projects.
- Operate within the pre-agreed accounting control framework, demonstrate a control mind set. Continually review the local framework for adherence, where gaps are identified take personal ownership to define, socialise and embed improvements. Work with all parties to reduce risk and the cost of control.
- Develop / continually improve relations with key stakeholders, play your part in embedding a customer centric culture where all team members consider the impact on customers and their future requirements.
- Support the Network Rail better day every day initiative by highlighting areas of potential improvement at the daily / weekly focus groups.
- To pro-actively develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders to deliver a continuing professional service.
- Play your part in adopting an inclusive culture where individuals can be themselves and are free to challenge existing process without discouragement. Work with others to support a culture of operational responsibility where individuals take personal ownership for delivery.
The Ideal Candidate
- Full / part membership of a professional body (CIMA, ACCA, ACA)
- Exceptional customer focus/engagement/stakeholder management skills

Package Description
Role Title: Assistant Tax Accountant
Salary range: £25,000 per annum
Contract Type: 6 month Fixed term contract
Location: Square One | 4 Travis Street | Manchester M1 2NY
