Business Support Manager

Who are we?

Engineering Services is a function within Route Services.  We sit as a central team to provide national skills and activities which enable regions and industry partners to deliver the railway for our customers. 

As a large central functional team which focus on engineering delivery, we have many roles from pure engineering to project management and touch every part of the railway from track, power, signalling to the lifts and escalators which are essential to keep our stations moving.  

RIDC (Rail Innovation & Development Centres Melton and Tuxford) are purpose-built testing and trialling facilities. Designed to support high and low speed testing if rollingstock, advanced signalling infrastructure and equipment testing, telecommunication systems deployment, new and modified technology trials and enabling verification and validation activities for future railway technology

Main Responsibility

  • Facilitate the development of complex customer contracts, business processes and technical activities to achieve a fixed customer pipeline at both RIDC centres
  • Manage internal and external stakeholders to understand future business strategies and maintain up-to-date customer requirement plans.
  • Collect, review, analyse and maintain business, contract and supplier performance data and use it to support contract deliver with the RIDC commercial team.
  • Manage customer relationships in the relevant specialist areas.
  • Manage the development of new business development strategies to better incentivise future business at the RIDC centres.
  • Identify and implement quality management and efficiency improvement initiatives.
  • Review and comply with company procedures and standards to understand the appropriate resources, communication strategies, training, and competency needs, ensuring the customer, Network Rail and RIDC, safety and technical requirements can be met.
  • Develop and reporting escalation processes for customer satisfaction KPIs
  • Lead and develop customer requirement processes that facilitate excellent and engineering engagement.
  • Interface with RIDC commercial and engineering teams to ensure the customers engineering and commercial requirements met and assured by the RIDC Safe Assurance Panel (SRP)
  • Actively engage with industry to develop and secure new business for the RIDC sites.

The Ideal Candidate

The Ideal Candidate should have all the essential criteria below

  • Able to lead a team and motivate team members.
  • Extensive knowledge of the supply chain and the relevant supply contracts.
  • Experience of contract and supplier management.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
  • Commercial and negotiation skills.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Good interpersonal, influencing, communication and organisational skills.
  • A customer focussed approach.
  • Able to evaluate complex factors and make decisions to maximise benefit to Network Rail.
  • Strategic outlook, including the ability to fully analyse options and drive delivery of recommendations.
  • Understanding and application of best practice supply chain management within relevant markets.
  • Proven experience of managing 3rd party supplier relationships as well as relationships with key internal stakeholders.

 

Desirable but not essential

  • 5 years’ experience working in the rail industry.
  • Experience working in an active engineering or commercial environment.
  • Professional Engineering accreditation - CEng, IEng or equivalent (or working towards)
  • Membership to a professional body
  • Experience developing and delivering quality management systems.

Package Description

Role:  Business Support Manager

Salary: £46,701-£52,538

Locations:  Rail Innovation & Development Centre RIDC Melton Mowbray and Tuxford, however other Network Rail (Engineering services) locations can be considered

Contract Type: Permanent

Interview Dates: TBC
