Cloud Specialist

Job Introduction

This role sits in Route Services, a business area that has been created to supply services to the routes in the safest, most cost-efficient and effective way, enabling them to benefit from economies of scale and optimised national resources.

Working in the IT Services Team, you will provide our customers with smart technology for the railway of today, designing fit-for-purpose and innovative solutions. Your vital work will help to manage the day-to-day running of our vast IT estate, from safety critical systems maintenance to hardware provision, supporting thousands of employees every day.

Main Responsibility

Provide specialist support for designated cloud infrastructure and applications within Network Rail. Drive resolution of support and project issues for all cloud infrastructure and services within Network Rail through direct hands-on implementation and oversight of supplier delivered changes.

What will you be doing?

1. Maintain and improve the availability of all cloud applications and components that underpin Network Rail applications.

2. Drive resolution of project issues and support the successful delivery of all cloud-based services within Network Rail.

3. Undertake minor development work to improve the availability and functionality of Network Rail applications running within the cloud environments.

4. Specialise in one of the following Cloud ecosystems: Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, OCI. Provide expert consultation and advice to project delivery services and 3rd party service integrators in order to provide allow the timely development of designs and implementations.

5. Identify areas of technical debt left in the environment from previous projects and highlight to the IT Infrastructure Manager or resolve where this can easily be achieved.

6. Constantly keep up with the new and emerging technologies as they are released to help with the adoption and awareness inside Network Rail.

7. Own and implement an appropriate resolution plan and escalate where necessary to the Customer Relationship team.  Provide support to the Systems Integrator in resolving the issues that may occur.

8. Own and drive requests for change deployment to change control. Manage the implementation process for new releases of supported applications.  Provide technical support to the technical implementer.

9. Coach and mentor for less-experienced team members and provide information, both upwards and downwards, of incoming trends in the cloud ecosystem in order to allow Network Rail to develop is cloud services.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Significant experience in a support or project delivery role with a specialism in the Microsoft Azure ecosystem or significant relevant experience in another area.
  • Experience of working within an ITIL based support environment.
  • Experience of support and implementation of cloud native resources at specialist level.
  • Experience of diagnosis/troubleshooting of cloud specific services/code/scripts at specialist level.
  • Experience of supporting projects delivering to cloud environments at any level.
  • Certifications in cloud technologies (current or expired) such as:
     
    • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner
    • Azure Fundamentals
    • OCI Infrastructure Foundations
    • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate
    • Azure Administrator
    • OCI Certified Cloud Operations Associate
    • AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty
    • AWS Certified Security – Specialty
    • AWS Certified Machine Learning – Specialty
       
  • Excellent analytical, organisational and teamwork skills, with a proven record of ownership of delivery of solutions in a complex technical environment.
  • Experience of driving continuous improvements in a multi-skilled team in a customer focussed environment.
  • Broad technical knowledge and understanding of multiple tier applications.
  • Proven ability to manage stakeholder relationships and communicate complex technical issues in a customer focused way.
  • Experience of deploying and managing cloud storage types and tiering at any level.

Package Description

Vacancy Type: Full-time but flexible working patterns will be considered.

Duration: There are 2 Permanent opportunities available

Location:  Manchester or Milton Keynes (Flexible)

Closing date: 25 August 2022

Band & Salary: (£40,107 -£45,120)
