Electrical Power Training & Development Manager

Job Introduction

As the Electrical Power Training & Development Manager, you'll lead the design, development, and delivery of innovative training programs, support the implementation of cutting-edge electrical control systems, and manage the transition to awarding Apprenticeships. What You'll Do:

Lead the Development and Delivery: Manage the development and delivery of comprehensive electrical controller training programs, ensuring our teams are equipped with the skills they need for both initial training and the implementation of new electrical control systems.

Assess and Verify Competence: Oversee the assessment and verification of electrical controller competence nationwide, maintaining our rigorous standards and supporting continuous improvement.

Apprenticeship Program Management: Lead the transition to awarding Apprenticeships and manage ongoing requirements, ensuring our apprenticeship programs are top-tier and meet industry standards.

Main Responsibility

  • Lead and manage the delivery of technical training programmes for new and existing electrical controllers, in order that the outcomes meet the stated requirements of the competence framework and Apprenticeship Framework as appropriate. Maintain the quality of training and maximum utilisation of all training facilities.
  • Give direction, senior representation and support to internal clients, manage stakeholder expectations and influence negotiations with the Routes.  Develop and maintain currency in rail electrical engineering systems to a level that is recognised as a Subject Matter Expert by the Technical Authority (STE).
  • Support the development and delivery of a programme of change projects in compliance with company processes and procedures.
  • Evaluate, and revise appropriately, electrical training programmes so that they continue to meet the requirements of the business. Be able to deliver a full range of electrical engineering programmes as required.
  • Manage the progress of the mentee electrical controllers so that local training progresses appropriately, and that new controllers are receiving suitable and sufficient work place experience and any issues are dealt with in a timely manner, providing feedback to the line manager as appropriate.
  • Lead on the assessment and verification of electrical control operators in line with the requirements, or Network Rail competence standards and awarding bodies as the programme migrates to an apprenticeship.
  • Lead and manage the training and assessment programmes associated with new developments in electrical control, including the implementation of the new national SCADA Traction Control Management System and Rail Operations Apprenticeship Scheme
  • Support the work experience of new starters, apprentices and delegates, leading communications efficiently and effectively with all stakeholders as appropriate.

Normal full time office hours

What’s the local area like?

You will be required to live within a communicable distance to your office location. You will be require to travel to other NR locations when needed and for upskilling.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • IEng or CEng in an electrical engineering discipline
  • Significant electrical engineering experience in industry to be able to develop, update and deliver training programmes
  • Excellent communication skills to train, coach and mentor delegates
  • Planning skills to work with senior managers to effectively forecast and plan the delivery of training

Desirable

Project management experience

Salary range: Band 3C £55,596 - £62,546
