Lead Visualisation Manager

Salary: starting at £55,596 to £62,546 per annum.

This role can be based in the following locations: Manchester or York

Main Responsibility

Some of the key accountabilities of this role are:

1.              Manage the delivery and support of the Enterprise Reporting service and its outputs, collaborating with product owners, to improve analysis and decision support for customers across Network Rail.

2.              Own Network Rail’s BI reporting catalogue, driving the use of standardised enterprise data, visualisations and metrics so that self-service BI is consistent and efficient across the company.

3.              Develop, test and own the assurance methodology for BI outputs, so customers and Group BI Service Visualisation Authors can verify local reports to benefit a wider range of customers across Network Rail.

4.              Provide specialist advice and guidance on Decision Support Tools and Business Intelligence to Network Rail BI teams, increasing overall capability and effectiveness of BI across the organisation.

5.              Manage the impact of delivering visualisation activity on current resources and work closely with the Business Improvement Manager, so that Visualisation Authors meet delivery requirements and customer expectations.

6.              Produce and maintain best practice guides, updating BI and visualisation standards, so that BI outputs and the use of reporting tools are consistent across Network Rail.

7.              Identify and implement new visualisation techniques and capabilities for customers, including more advanced analytics and modelling, to drive deeper insights from BI across the business.

8.              Identify and escalate business and safety risks, through visualisations, so that business area customers can mitigate and manage risks effectively.

9.              Produce data quality guidance, engaging with Data Access and Quality Managers, to continuously improve data compliance and accuracy across the Enterprise Reporting service.

The Ideal Candidate

Working in dynamic environments, driving success in complex situations, and working with stakeholders that is required to lead in the successful delivery of improvements to the railway network.

Our ideal candidates demonstrate a track record of engineering data models using extensive datasets and possess a proven ability to leverage existing technology while staying abreast of the latest advancements, particularly in Microsoft Power Platform. Working with our newly formed team, you will develop an understanding and capability of the TRU Programme Controls & Programme Management function and provided with support towards your development. Join us in shaping the future of our reporting capabilities and supporting the management of our expanding reporting library, while prioritising new reporting requests.

We need you to have:

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Extensive demonstrable experience, in multiple BI Toolsets such as MS Power BI,Oracle OBIEE or Hyperion
  • Successful proven experience of leading BI teams using waterfall and agile methodologies
  • Demonstrable knowledge of business analysis and identifying, developing and delivering technical solutions from problem statements
  • Proven ability to interface with technical and business communities at strategic and detail level
  • Demonstrable strong communication skills; verbal, written and presentation
  • Demonstrable strong analytical and numerical skills
  • Demonstrable knowledge of data modelling / architecture

It would be advantageous if you have:

  • Recognised professional qualification in Business Analysis (e.g. BCS Business Analysis Consultant or Expert) or programme / project management qualification (e.g. Prince2 or MSP) 
  • Programming and formula knowledge such as Python, SQL and DAX
  • Knowledge of the UK Rail Industry and Programme Controls
  • Experience of working within a large, devolved matrix organisation

Office Requirement: Hybrid. 2-3 days per week in the office and the remainder working from home (to be agreed with hiring manager)

The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) is a Programme of activities that is improving the railway between York and Manchester via Leeds and Huddersfield.

​​​Stretching across the North of England, this key 76-mile Transpennine railway serves 23 stations, crosses over and dips under 285 bridges and viaducts, passes through six miles of tunnels, and crosses over 29 level crossings.
