Job Introduction
The TRU Central delivery unit is currently looking for a number of project planners to cover all parts of the business. We cover a diverse set of projects, so if you are interested in;
· Being part of a multi discipline project between Stalybridge & Huddersfield, involving working in 3 tunnels, 4 stations & full route electrification
· Introduction of the new train control technology that needs a dedicated project management team to deliver several technical interventions across the TRU route
· A portfolio of work that supports the core TRU, but equally vital to its success
and you have experience in;
· Creating, maintaining and working with construction project schedules to drive projects forward
· Being part of a team, summarising different disciplines schedules into a coherent plan
· Critically analysing schedules and providing project teams with useful insights

Band 4.C, salary: £43,588 to £49,037 per annum.
This role can be based in the following locations: Leeds, with regular travel to other TRU offices (York/Manchester) & sites.

Main Responsibility
Some of the key accountabilities of this role are:
1. To interact and become a key member of the project delivery team providing a quality service to support the effective delivery of the project.
2. To interact and support the effective information sharing / collection with all the project stakeholders in an appropriate manner.
3. Prepare a project work breakdown structure and plan / schedule which is capable of delivering the project objectives and providing effective project performance measurement and reporting.
4. To develop the appropriate quality plan / schedule in line with the project scheduling principles and processes.
5. Monitor and progress the plan / schedule and make changes as required. Develop recovery schedules and contingency plans in order to meet changed objectives as necessary.
6. Input the planning issues into the project’s critical issues risk log. Review planning risks and monitor whether the risk register is updated accordingly.
7. Report actual performance and variance against plan and forecast outcomes. Highlight key milestone and critical path issues to members of the team, provide an assessment of the impact of such issues and recommend solutions to correct the position.
8. Monitor and audit contractor plans. Monitor contractor’s planning processes so that they comply with Network Rail procedure requirements.
9. Interrogate contractor’s statement of progress for schedule adherence and payment purposes.
10. Identify key resource requirements and monitor that these are properly booked and availability is maintained.
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a proactive and solution-focused individual with strong experience in Primavera P6 and programme development. The ideal candidate should possess the following qualities:
- Proficient in Primavera P6: Confident in developing and analysing project programmes.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Able to effectively communicate, report, and present to key stakeholders.
- Problem Solving: Solution-oriented with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving project issues.
- Communication Skills: Excellent at building rapport and confidently challenging third parties when necessary.

We need you to have:
- Relevant experience in the successful scheduling & planning of engineering projects.
- Knowledge of railway investment planning systems & processes.
- Experience of using a number of project management scheduling tools & techniques,
It would be advantageous if you have:
- Membership of a relevant professional body
- Understanding of the engineering requirements of work on the railway
- Candidates should typically have at least 3 years of working in a planning & scheduling role on the railway, or recent comparable other experience
- Experience in using Primavera P6

Transpennine Route Upgrade
The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) is a Programme of activities that is improving the railway between York and Manchester via Leeds and Huddersfield.
Stretching across the North of England, this key 76-mile Transpennine railway serves 23 stations, crosses over and dips under 285 bridges and viaducts, passes through six miles of tunnels, and crosses over 29 level crossings.
Proposed improvements as will deliver a hard-working, reliable railway for passengers, allowing for trains with more seats, more services and faster journey times.
