SHE Specialist

Job Introduction

This role sits in Route Services, a business area that has been created to supply services to the routes in the safest, most cost-efficient and effective way, enabling them to benefit from economies of scale and optimised national resources.

The Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) team provide subject matter advice, assurance, direction and support to Route Services business areas, delivering on the SHEQ strategy, on high-risk areas of improvement and Occupational Health and Wellbeing.  The team takes a lead role on all areas of SHEQ by providing support to Route Services functional teams and working with them to deliver strategic SHEQ objectives to support the business with a Railway Fit for the Future, Everyone Home Safe Everyday and Everyone Fit for the Future.

Your role will make a difference in enhancing occupational health in the Route Services function, focusing on a specific project that will improve health around risk identification, supporting occupational health risk assessments on worksites and data collection for the Occupational Health and Wellbeing Manager.  You will also do some inspections around occupational health to better understand the risks on site, to help support the site staff with applying appropriate health controls.

Main Responsibility

1.To provide advice and guidance to staff regarding health and safety, and assurance matters.

2.To manage and evaluate documentation requirements for health and safety to RS business teams in compliance with the Health, Safety and Environment Management system and legal requirements.

3.To carry out risk-based inspections of the function’s worksites and locations – specifically on occupational health matters.

4.To support Line Management in compliance with the Company Accident & Investigation process and assist where required in the collation of evidence.

5.To support Line Management in undertaking risk assessments and health and safety monitoring activities.

6.To support the delivery of the functional audit plan in main around occupational health matters.

7.To provide support to the functional SHE and performance teams in the collation of workforce health and safety data within the corporate management systems processes.

8.To manage the assessment and development of the health and safety aspects of supplier contract documentation where relevant.

9.Provide a project management service for health and safety OPEX work in accordance with Network Rail’s company standards and guidelines.

10.Provide health support to identified meetings on health matters with contracting organisations to share and promulgate best practice and lessons learnt.

 

Sound interested? This is what you will need to have:

  • Knowledge of health and safety management system and compliance management processes
  • National Examinations Board of Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Understanding of British Health and Safety legal requirements
  • Excellent risk assessment skills / knowledge
  • Good interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
  • Strong IT skills in data management and presentations
  • Logical thinker
  • Ideally Internal auditor qualified
  • Good experience working around occupational health matters
  • Experience reviewing occupational health hygiene data and using it to support risk assessments and developing health controls

Package Description

Vacancy Type: Full-time but flexible working patterns will be considered.

Duration: 9-month secondment

Location: The Quadrant: MK

Band & Salary: Band 4B (£32,749 - £36,832)
