Main Responsibility
The role advertised is in the Local Regional Improvement portfolio in DDaT Delivery, for delivering building infrastructure and telecoms solutions for customers. This is a very rewarding area of the business, where improvements directly affect our Regional customers, who in turn can then deliver better services for Passengers and Freight customers.
We deliver physical improvements to DDaT buildings (e.g. Fire safety, electrical and Air Conditioning improvements etc.), and we provide IT and telecoms project delivery for new offices, depots and refurbished workplaces. Our projects and services include the delivery of telecoms Wide Area Network (WAN), Local Area Network (LAN) and Wi-Fi connectivity, data network cabling, telephony solutions, and audio-visual equipment etc. This role requires demonstrable project safety management practice and knowledge of Health and Safety best practice Common Safety Methods (CSMs) as well as Construction Design Management (CDM) legislation.
You will lead the end-to-end development and delivery of several projects within a broader portfolio, to achieve cost, time, quality, and safety objectives in accordance with the requirements of the IT Services delivery lifecycle, governance, and company standards. Manage customer relationships and supplier relationships via commercial contracts, to enable the delivery of appropriate outcomes for the customer.
- Shapes the project by planning, structuring, and sequencing appropriate sets of tasks and activities to drive optimum delivery of outputs.
- Builds and leads strong, sustainable relationships with customers, contractors, and suppliers project stakeholders to enable development and delivery of suitable customer outcomes.
- Builds and leads the project delivery team and manages all suppliers to take accountability of dependencies, milestones and significant risks and issues in accordance with the operating model standards, guidelines and delivery lifecycles and inspires the team to maintain full engagement to enable meeting the business objectives.
- Drives the stakeholder relationship engagement strategy, leading the development and delivery of business solutions for the customer.
- Monitors and reviews all project delivery budgets, costs and resources, and drives governance arrangements so that plans and budgets are successfully met, and appropriate reporting is undertaken.
- Manages risk, working with the business and using effective stakeholder management to agree common understanding to mitigate and reduce risk for the project delivery and customer outcomes.
- Maintains effective relationships with key customers and stakeholders, so that effective and robust communication plans that underpin the solution delivery are understood, agreed and in place.
- Identifies and implements quality and efficiency improvement initiatives to continually improve and enable more effective and qualitative processes and customer solutions.
- Leads and manages all aspects of delivery utilising own skills plus specific skills from ITD Support and other Network Rail functions, to enable successful business/IT solutions for the customer.
The Ideal Candidate
Essential
- Significant proven track record in leading and delivering successful, large scale and complex IT
- projects and programmes.
- Significant experience in driving and delivering though others using commercial contracts.
- Proven experience in supplier management and delivering with commercial acumen.
- Significant experience in leading and assuring project management artefacts.
- Expert knowledge of project management principles, methods, techniques, tools and emerging trends
- Formal Programme/Project Management qualification (e.g. APM/P – Certified Project Manager, Managing Successful Programmes, and Prince 2 or equivalent).
- Significant experience in management of customer expectations, senior stakeholders and developing strong relationships across the business.
- Strong leadership skills, influencing skills and ability to motivate and inspire confidence in others.
- High levels of flexibility, adaptability, and broad thinking.
- Knowledge and experience of a range of delivery/ development life cycles, e.g. Waterfall, Agile, Iterative
- Strong financial management skills including quality forecasting
- Proven track record in managing staff performance/underperformance and developing high performing staff and teams
Desirable
- Knowledge of/experience in the UK rail industry.
- Proven track record of continuous improvements
