About Technical Services

Provide Network Rail and the rail industry with safe, operational testing and trialling for track machines, infrastructure, equipment and new and modified technology. They deliver specialist engineering, asset management, systems analysis, modelling and rail test development services. The team develop robotics, design tools and new technologies as well as designing, developing and manufacturing the high-performance switch system point operation equipment. Working closely with the route​​s, regions, central functions and industry colleagues to improve the experience of our passengers and freight users.

 

What will you be doing?

In this role, you will lead the monitoring of the projects in the delegated regional portfolio, in compliance with commissioning standards and procedures. You will monitor that the projects are effectively and efficiently delivering the client/customer expectations signalling testing and commissioning activities for allocated schemes. You will need to monitor the compliance of testing and commissioning activities with the relevant legislation, railway group and company standards and verify that integrated railway systems are safely accepted into use. You will provide proactive management and issue resolution throughout the preparation and implementation of the staged delivery of the programme.

Main Responsibility

What does the day to day look like?

As a Senior Testing and Commissioning Engineer, you will lead the establishment of projects from the staging through to the commissioning portion, all the while reviewing and accepting new strategies that would benefit the project.

Working alongside the Project Manager, you will review systems, lead and undertake inspections, and provide independent testing and commissioning guidance. You will be required to submit reviews and prepare reports based on your investigations and at times, provide professional advice to the Project Director with respect to the state of readiness for commissioning.

In exceptional circumstances, you will lead the prioritisation of installation, testing and commissioning activities and resources in consultation with the responsible Project Manager, to secure the maximum operational availability, without compromising safety, following possessions where the works cannot be completed.

Part of this role would be to contribute to the contingency management plan as well as the overall programme risk management plan. You would be asked to attend GRIP stage gate reviews to confirm that the commissioning activities.

 

 

The Ideal Candidate

  • Incorporated Engineer
  • Formal qualification in discipline specific testing processes or have held in the last 3 years; hold relevant certificates or licences
  • Extensive knowledge of Railway Systems equipment and processes
  • Experience of major multi stage, multi discipline Railway Infrastructure projects
  • A sound knowledge of policies and standards relating to all Railway Systems Disciplines
  • Good written and oral skills
  • Hold IRSE licence category 6.8.105 Engineering Manager or equivalent or capable of achieving within 2 years.

  • Chartered Engineer
  • Corporate Member of a relevant institution
  • Experience in posts responsible for maintenance of railway infrastructure equipment
  • Formal qualification in testing and/or testing management
  • Hold A1 Assessor qualification, or capable of achieving within one year

Salary range: Band 3c £51,156 - £57,551 per annum

Contract Type: Permanent
