Systems Data Analyst

Job Introduction

Reporting to the Head of Data Quality & Performance, you will produce and maintain a growing library of reports that are key to driving the success of the programme and individual functions. You will work with the team to ensure reports are managed to a professional standard to ensure they are delivered to time and meet customer requirements.

Drugs & Alcohol test: All prospective candidates offered a conditional role will be required to undergo and pass a drugs and alcohol test. Salary: starting at £35,582 to £40,029 per annum.

This role can be based in the following locations: Manchester or York

Main Responsibility

Some of the key accountabilities of this role are:

1.         Manage the download and analysis of current and historic performance data from information reporting systems.

2.         Provide a periodic update of train service group performance based on data extracted for reporting to project stakeholders. 

3.         Provide a baseline and periodic update of achieved weighted lateness performance for inclusion in the Network Rail lifecycle cost business model.

4.         Respond to system analysis queries using information collated from the available systems.

5.         Provide quantitative analysis of system workload attributes associated with the delivery of specific timetables based upon requirements identified by projects.

6.         Provide access to and user support for modelling systems.  Assess changes to corporate business systems and support changes to the modelling systems as required.

The Ideal Candidate

Working in dynamic environments, driving success in complex situations, and working with stakeholders that is required to lead in the successful delivery of improvements to the railway network.

Our ideal candidates demonstrate a track record of working with customers to produce business intelligence through Microsoft Power Platform. Working with our newly formed team, you will develop and understanding and capability of the TRU Programme Controls & Programme Management function and provided with support towards your development. Join us in shaping the future of our reporting capabilities and supporting the management of our expanding reporting library, while prioritising new reporting requests.

We need you to have:

  • Degree in a relevant subject
  • Significant experience of technical analysis within an engineering team
  • Significant experience of systems and software engineering processes and procedures
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Expert user level in database construction, analysis and maintenance capability

It would be advantageous if you have:

  • Programming and formula knowledge such as Python, SQL and DAX
  • Knowledge of the geographic and physical context of the railway
  • Knowledge of railway or transport planning and engineering

Contract Type: Permanent

Office Requirement: Hybrid. 2-3 days per week in the office and the remainder working from home (to be agreed with hiring manager)

Transpennine Route Upgrade

The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) is a Programme of activities that is improving the railway between York and Manchester via Leeds and Huddersfield.

​​​Stretching across the North of England, this key 76-mile Transpennine railway serves 23 stations, crosses over and dips under 285 bridges and viaducts, passes through six miles of tunnels, and crosses over 29 level crossings.

Proposed improvements as will deliver a hard-working, reliable railway for passengers, allowing for trains with more seats, more services and faster journey times.​
