Technical and Training Specialist

Job Introduction

What will you be doing?

Working in the Future Capability team, which is part of Network Rail Training, you will provide learning, development and training services to people in the rail industry.

This will involve designing, developing and facilitating appropriate training programmes that effectively transfer your knowledge and skills to others to maintain and operate Signalling equipment, such as the Traffic Management and European Train Control System (ETCS).

As part of your training programme, you will evaluate the capability of the workforce and offer an inspirational, value for money, delivery that incorporates our core behaviours and safety ethos.

If you have previous experience working with Signalling/Technical Engineering in the railway, have strong communication skills and can create a structured training programmes to educate others then this could be the ideal opportunity for you.

Main Responsibility

  • Deliver technical and non-technical Signalling/Technical Engineering skills training to incorporate new ways of working and behaviours to improve safety, performance and engagement.
  • Develop the proficiency of employees’ knowledge of Signalling/Technical Engineering, skills and confidence to operate and maintain new hi-tech equipment and technology being introduced in Digital Railway.
  •  Actively contribute to related workstreams within the Digital Railway programme to support the definition and presentation of technical training and briefings in the field of Signalling/Technical Engineering, enabling key messages to be identified and incorporated.
  • Provide effective assessment, evaluation and analysis of delegate learning through the learning journey to measure the effectiveness and optimise training delivery methods using a blended learning approach.
  •  Design, lead and validate the development of training solutions through analysis, design and facilitation stages as an operational discipline and technical expert in Signalling/Technical Engineering.
  • Collaborate with the wider Future Capability team, steering groups and working groups to provide technical guidance that supports the realisation of programme benefits.
  • Create, implement and monitor transition plans to enable smooth transfer from project state to business as usual.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Proven track record in a railway signalling maintenance role, managing real-time incidents
  • Demonstrate management capabilities of developing, thinking, achieving and inspiring
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Able to provide technical leadership to appropriate peer group
  • Ability to motivate and inspire
  • Effectively assessing and evaluating delegate enhanced knowledge and skills to ensure learning objectives are met
  • Designing, facilitating and delivery of appropriate training interventions
  • In-depth knowledge of company standards and training processes
  • Detailed understanding of Railway Operations
  • Thorough knowledge of the technical, safety or vocational capability relevant to operational discipline of the role
  • Appreciation of Instructional Systems Design methodology

Salary: £40,107-£45,120

Location: Enterprise House, 167-169 Westbourne Terrace, London, W2 6JX

Full time (35 hours per week)
