Summer Placement (Graphic Design)

Job Introduction

You’ll have opportunities to support lead designers with creative and innovative ideas to assist with our internal, multidisciplinary projects. You will assist with the creation of visual print-based assets (branding, brochures, leaflets, layout). You will learn how to apply core principles of typography and layout design to enhance the visual appeal of your content. Ideally, you will have basic knowledge of the Adobe creative suite, but don’t worry too much as this is something we will assist you with in your development.

Main Responsibility

We’re passionate about developing the next generation of talent that will come into our industry, and that means we’ll ensure you’re surrounded by supportive colleagues and receive coaching from senior staff.

You’ll receive mentorship from experienced design professionals alongside opportunities for skill development and portfolio enhancement. You will gain hands on experience working within a real-world design setting and enhance your skillset working within the parameters of Network Rail’s core branding.

The Ideal Candidate

You’ll need to be currently enrolled at university, and on track to achieve at least a 2:2 in a Graphic Design, Media, Marketing, or a similar BA (Bachelor of Arts) degree in a design related field.

We’re looking for logical thinkers with a creative approach to solving complex problems. You should be resourceful, hardworking and comfortable managing your own time. We would also like to see great communication skills. Enthusiasm and a desire to learn and develop is a must.

Salary: £17,000 per annum pro rata

Engineering Services is a function within Route Services.  We sit as a central team to provide national skills and activities which enable regions and industry partners to deliver the railway for our customers.

As a large central functional team which focus on engineering delivery, we have many roles from pure engineering to project management and touch every part of the railway from track, power, signalling to the lifts and escalators which are essential to keep our stations moving. 

Based in York, you’ll see what goes into keeping our railways running. From day one, you’ll get hands on design experience, develop new skills and contribute to interesting projects, all whilst being supported by a diverse talented team of designers.
